Can you bend it?

Like Beckham that is.
Bend It Like Beckham(BILB) it a British comedy directed by Gurinder Chada. It tells the story of one young girls struggle to play futball against her parents wishes.
BILB is a classic “old world” vs. “new world” struggle (any one with parents from “back home” know what I mean). In this case, the girl, Jess (Paminder Nagra), is Punjabi Indian and her parent’s play the “in the name of the family” and “custom” cards all the time. This means no playing “foolish” games and fraternizing with boys in the park, but learning to cook traditional meals in preparation of marriage.
BILB was a refreshing change from your typicial ameraican film. Unlike any usa comedy these days there was no gratuitous sex sceen, and most importantly no mind numbing jokes. The humour was great, a lot of subtle jokes that you had to be paying attention to get (like in Stavros’ classes). I’m sure it would have been even funnier to me if I understood all the British and Indian jokes.
Among all the humour was an inspirational tale of “against all odds”, a “love triangle”, jabs at the stereotypes of: women athletes, gays and lesbians, “kids these days”, and foreign cultures.
I haven’t figured out a rating system for the blog yet… so just go see it.
