Ximian: XD2 and Evo1.4

Ximian has a new version of Evolution, v1.4, and Ximian Desktop 2, they are due next Monday June 9th.
XD2 and Evo1.4 are based on Gnome 2.2. XD2 will clean up Gnome and make a GUI ready for the masses. I’ve been using Evo1.3 (the 1.4 beta) for some time and it looks and feels great. Ximian has done a great job adding useful features and making the interaction with the app very simple. Go get them.

Hey Mark, would you think of going to Ximians desktop? I’m thinking I just might, I’ve got a free hard drive laying around so when it comes out I’m gonna give it a go. I’ll write a review of what I think on my site.

The number of patches they put into OOo alone with graphics and updating the M$ propriatary format make it worth while to upgrade.

Can you get Ximians OOo and install it as a package for any distro?

I had XD1 running on my old RH 7.x systems, and really liked the UI improvements. Seeing how long it took Ximian to get this release out i’m sure it will
be worth the wait. I’m as soon as gentoo merges it into the portage tree i’m updating.

Ximian supports a number of distros, the RedCarpet tool is great for updates, i have used it to automate all the updates for the network i admin. Even debian! and .debs.
