The Great Blackout of 2003

I survived the great blackout of 2003. At about 16:15 EDT the lights flicker several times before finally going out for good. Initially I thought it was only the construction crew building the addition on to ITB, but quickly learned that the outage extended far east and west from Hamilton, and well south along the US eastern seaboard. Thankfully the most important utility, which is also the most taken for granted in our society, was restored only 8 hours later in Hamilton, and from what I hear shortly there after in TO, the last to come online. An finally now, as I write this, the second most important utility, the Internet was restored. I write this before I’ve gone to see what the “outside world” has been saying about the mass failure that knocked out the most important cities in Canada and the US. from what I hear the yankees will be in the dark for a while yet. Well gladly sell you power at far more then market value. and if the yankes get pissed, then maybe they’d like to talk softwood lumber, or beef, or border crossings, or Canadian misinformation (US polititians: “it was Canada’s fault the power went out”) …… I could go and on. but more on that later… off to my email and /. before i start shaking from withdrawl.
