Today is the Canadian Federal election, all Canadian citizens over the age of 18 are eligible to vote. If you are eligible, go and do you civic duty. For the first time in 25 years it will not be an elected dictatorship (all majority governments are in effect an elected dictatorship for 4 years).
Because this race is too close to call, please get out an be counted, it really will make a difference this time around. If you have not educated yourself about your local candidate or the party platforms, or simply don’t like your options, then vote Green (and give them some financial support*) or spoil your ballot so you can still be counted.
*every vote for a party that gets more than 5% of the popular vote will provide them with $1.75 per vote per year. This is to compensate for the limits imposed on corporate and lobbist donations.
In the riding next to mine, the last federal election had 3400 of 89000 cast ballots. My riding had 21000 of 90000, this means that those if half of those that did not vote could have changed the outcome. Think about that next time you say what does it matter anyway?
