Apple’s path to world domination

Apple’s stock price has double in the past 3 years, up to around the $40 mark. The surge began with the release of OS X, and has only improved with revolutionary product introductions (such as the G5 PowerMac, G4 then G5 iMac, the iPod, iTMS, list goes on and on…). I’ve been predicting for some time now that OS X will be available on the x86 platform. It is a hot discussion thread with a recent posting at /..

Apple is lead by a very smart person, and employs many smart people. They have always made choices for what is best for technology. Unfortunately they have sometimes been a head of their time with respect to the market. OS X on x86 is yet another example where the company will not rush in to releasing a medocre product for the sake of getting to market (unlike many MANY other companies). OSX for x86 will come when it just works for a large enough subset of the x86 hardware available. I feel this day will be sooner than later.

This move will position Apple to take the market by storm because of decoupling the software from the (Excellently Engineered) hardware. Althought the hardware package is well worth the cost, sometimes the cost is a barrier to purchase, especially for small/medium business. So the separation will move the market to was has become Apples new core business, software. (Something SUN needs to realise as well, you are now a software company) Great software, excellently engineered software, software that just works. I will not be surprised to see OS X market share above 15% in the next year, and Apple’s share price over $60.

I think what helps to make Apple a success is it’s fanatic followers. They make the products popular and in turn useful.

It would be nice to think that the better product should always win but I think we all know that isn’t true. And if Apple as a company isn’t a media whore than I don’t know who is.

When the hell did you make an email address required?

Personally, I feel that the utility of its products is was attracts the fanatic followers, and not the other way around.

The Newton is a prime example of Apple being ahead of its time with the PDA.

Made email required for the spam bots, and to make it easy for me to reply by email since the comments are emailed to me when posted.
