I have updated my stats page for the fuel consumption data of my VW Jetta TDI. As you can seen in the graph, the consumption rate has been steadily decreasing over the first 4 months of operation, and 11200km! From my research the rate will continue to get better for at least another 20000km before it plateaus.
VW’s specs have 7.1L/100km city and 4.9L/100km. I’m currently driving about 70/30, highway/city, at a lifetime average of 6.5L/100km or 15.3km/L. This month is down to 6.1L/100km, or up to 16.3km/L which is approaching the rated average.
Unlike the Prius that is spec’ed at 4.2L/100km, but people rarely experience those numbers with the hybrid, the diesel gets what it says it should. Plus it is 20% Biodiesel.
