Bringing down the House

When I said that the Canadian federal political theater would be interesting 13 months ago… who knew it would be this interesting.
In about an hour and a half (17:18 EDT) Parliament will be voting on the Budget bills (C-43, C-48). C-43 will have support of the Conservatives, but C-48 — and the possible fall of the government — will hinge on the vote of Chuck Cadman. If he does support the bill, he will be lone person to stand on the opposition side of the house… every person in the House will have their eyes on the Member of Parliament from Surrey-North.
The corruption scandal, and the lack of respect of the MPs in the House of Commons has public confidence in elected officials at an all-time low… but this /drama/ hopefully has the opposite effect in terms of public interest. Now is a time when the public can see that they can make a difference… that the actions of governement impacts your daily life (whether you realize it or not)… and that when 1 individual Canadian will rise and be counted as a yeh or neh, it will decide the future of the nation.
