Hooking… hooking… there she goes

Those memorable words, heard many a time on hot summer night while driving up to the cottage. Tom Cheek’s voice, along with Jerry Howarth were the most exciting way to take in a Blue Jays game… even when watching it on TV (like we did when Joe Carter touched them all and hit the biggest homerun in his life), mute the TV and turn up the radio.

Tom Cheek announced 4347 consecutive Toronto Blue Jay games, from the inaugural game on a snowy April 7, 1977 to June 3, 2004, including all post-season games.

After a 16-month battle with brain cancer, Tom Cheek passed away yesterday at his home in Florida. Thanks for the memories.
