CBC can learn from NPR

The Online Jounalism Review has a nice write up about how successful podcasting has been for NPR. Read the article - OJR: Will NPR’s podcasts birth a new business model for public radio?.
Then go and contact the CBC and request that more programming is made available via podcast. Put “podcast” in the subject line, and hope it will have the same effect it did at NPR. And hopefully the CBC can make some money off of the NPR model and then go on to produce made for podcast content.
NPR currently has 195 podcasts, 11 of them in the iTunes Top100. The CBC has 3 podcasts: CBC Radio3, Quirks and Quarks, and Metro Morning Toronto. They are rated 2, 3, and 35 respectively on the iTunes Canada podcasts page. Check the CBC podcasts out here. I listen to all 3, and hope to be listening to a lot more, such as The Hour, The Current, As It Happens, National Playlist, World Report, World at 6, …. you get the point.
When I welcomed back my CBC, I was hoping that the successes of the lockout (i.e. CBCunplugged) would continue. You’d think all the money the CBC saved in salaries during the lockout could go to new content delivery and new content.
Update: Based on Wayne McPhail’s comments at the TLS, CBC podcasting will be coming soon and coming big. I can’t wait!
