Land of the Free?

CBC.ca | Bush acknowledges approving secretive eavesdropping in U.S. dozens of times
With the oppressive Patriot Act about to be made permanent, we learn that even more civil liberties are being raped and pilaged in the “land of the free”. Now with the Patriot Act, people know what freedoms are being taken away (execpt for most of people that voted to make the act law, but never read it). But allowing the NSA to spy on americans is illegal.
So how will this admission from the Bush administration that its president has broken the law (i.e. the 4th Amendment) go over with citizens? Will he be impeached? Will anyone notice? Does anyone care?
For those of you unfamiliar with the american way of life (fast food, shopping at the mall, Enterainment Tonight is the news, gas guzzling SUVs, single serving consumable products for everything under the sun - you get my point), the majority of citizens won’t notice, care, or understand what is actually being taken away. Most americans know more about the Jennifer-Brad-Angelina saga, or Jessica Simpson’s love life than they do about the affairs of their own country. The country went into an illegal war on false evidence - was Bush impeached? No, since 55% percent believed the justification for war was NOT misleading. Shit, after the administration admitted there are likely no WMDs in Iraq, 33% still “believed” there were. (source)
Will there be a march on the Capitol in protest of the violation of the 4th amendment? No. What would happen if if the 2nd amendment were repealed (i.e. the right to bear arms)? It confounds me why a civilised society needs to bear arms of any kind. (I’ll save more of rant on this for another day) Or why a civilised society accepts a government that diregards basic human rights of all people including it own citisens, let alone re-elects it. Come on people, wake up and smell the real world. I don’t mean to offend all americans, those that understand my statements above are not a part of the problem.
If ignorance is bliss, that bliss gives you some kind of screwed up freedom south of the 49th.
