BBC NEWS | UK | England | Somerset | Ramp creates power as cars pass
Hughes Research, check out the pictures and videos.
Each ramp creates 5 to 50 kW as a car passes over it, depending on weight of the vehicle. The DVP and 401 interchange in Toronto has an almost constant stream of vehicles for at least 8 hours a day. That’s at least 40kWh a day from each ramp. The ramps are 25,000 pounds (about $50,000 CND).
At the current average price of electricity in Ontario, $0.05/kWh, and an average of 100kWh output, it would take 27 years to recoop the current cost of the ramp. Granted cost of electricity will go up (decreasing the break-even point), but some(many) city(countries) needs to throw economics out the window and buy a tonne of these to scale production and bring down the cost to a point where a government cannot say no to FREE electricity. Know of any other technologies that reclaim otherwise wasted energy?
