Canada has 1.8 doctors per 1000, and 2.1 laywers per 1000. I second that motion.
Seriously, this guy wants to pick an argument with Matthew Good. Good is one of the most socially aware artists, Canadian to boot, that calls it like he sees it with no spin because he backs it up with facts. Can this guy get a clue about society since he is studying in to join a profession that is supposed to serve society. The word ‘Society’ emerged in the 15th century and is derived from the French societe. The French word, in turn, had its origin in the Latin societas, a “friendly association with others,”. If by others you only consider people that look like you, think like you, and behave like you, fine… but to me that is a pretty narrow view of the world. To me, and I believe to Matt, ‘others’ is non-excluable. Thus you must consider the plight of others, the perspective of others, and be empathetic of others. Clearly he does not consider others, and therefore society. Some advice: Years of keen observation and study has shown that self-interested people rise by climbing the knives in the backs of other self-interested persons. Societal-interested people rise by lifting each other to greater heights.
Update: Matt seems to have removed the post, I have the original text if desired for interest. Otherwise a timely and relevant alternative can be read at Gladwell.com: Imagine My Surprise…
