embedded Mac OS X. Period.
The cool features and ease of use is now what is expected from Apple. We’ve been talking about convergence for years, it’s about time… The fact that the Apple iPhone is running a full featured embedded Mac OS X is what the new revolution is going to be about. You heard it here first.
It is already in the AppleTV. I forsee a day when it will be licensed by a gaming console manufacturer (ahem, PS4 perhapse), other branded mobiles (Motorola), among other devices.
Embedded Linux was supposed to revolutionize embedded devices. It has had an impact by significantly lowering costs and some development time, but the fact that the interfaces (for users) and internals (for developers) are difficult to work with are the major barriers. Think about all those MP3 players that were a blip before the -late to the game- iPod arrived.
