Critics want Ontario to ‘Flick Off’ campaign
“I say it’s a bad judgment,” said Tory. “It shouldn’t be done this way. There are plenty of ways to educate kids without using language like this.”
Broten said she sees nothing wrong with the government’s endorsement of a campaign encouraging people to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “It’s a suitable website for youth. It’s a campaign directed at youth,” she said.
It’s the kids you want to target with this campaign and to do that you cannot preeach at them (you all know how well that works), but connect. Younger children that don’t know the other similar term will take it literally, and be conscious to flick the switch off. For the older ones that may have already started to get in to the habit of leaving every light on, the font and phonetic similarities is attention grabbing… hopefully long enough for them to think about what it means.
All the old farts that take offence to the ad campaign are too stuck in their ways to change. Look at the great job they have done with our environment. So how about they just flick off the political rhetoric and focus their efforts on a more useful project… a “Grow some Woodies” tree campaing perhaps, or some other phrase with some sexual innuendo. If sex and violence can sell everything else, why not a lifestyle that is good for the environment.
